WASHINGTON, DC – Honey bees and other pollinators play a vital role in the food supply with more than one quarter of the nation’s agricultural crops dependent upon pollination. Bayer CropScience’s Bee Care Tour brings 25 years of support for honey bee health to the forefront with a coast to coast tour covering more than 5,600 miles and outreach to 29,000 bee colonies. Bayer CropScience is a member of the CropLife America’s StewardshipFirst program.

Jay Vroom, president and CEO of CropLife America noted that, “these efforts represent a terrific example of fostering collaboration among growers, beekeepers and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the Tour is critical for raising awareness of the health challenges impacting honey bees.”

The tour engages with all stakeholders – growers, beekeepers, researchers, media, retailers, consumers, industry associations and commodity groups, and more – to develop allies and collaborate on better bee health and the role sustainable farming programs plays in that.

“Bee Health is a concern of everyone, but especially among those who understand the critical role honey bees and other pollinators play in sustainable agriculture,” said Dick Rogers, bee health research manager with Bayer CropScience. The Tour is part of Bayer CropScience’s overall Bee Care Program and commitment to honey bee health.

The CropLife America StewardshipFirst program is a commitment by the crop protection industry to provide safe, healthy and plentiful crops that feed and clothe a growing population. StewardshipFirst was created to promote and advance sustainable agriculture and the environmentally sound use of crop protection products. It is hoped that through science-based discovery, StewardshipFirst will help global agriculture economically produce safe, high quality, abundant food, fiber and other crops, thus ensuring food security and alleviating poverty, suffering and hardship.
